ICC ONE DAY LEAGUE 2011-2014

ICC One Day League

In October 2010, the ICC Board approved the recommendations from the ICC Chief Executives' Committee (CEC). These recommendations seek to give exciting content and context for international cricket within the Future Tours Programme (FTP) after 2012 and also to consider future ICC events.

In a series of recommendations, the ICC Board agreed that the FTP should also consist of a One-Day International league, the first to run from April 2011 until April 2014, culminating in the crowning of an ODI league champion. This would run separate to the ICC Cricket World Cup.

ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat said: "Restructuring international cricket is a significant strategic challenge and one that must be dealt with. We have now agreed in principle to exciting and far-reaching proposals to tackle this most important issue.

"Achieving balance and unanimous agreement is not easy but we have responded well to a strategic priority to restructure international cricket. The proposals, especially introducing more meaningful context, means we now have the potential to follow international cricket that is even more exciting."

Further details of the one-day league, including a fixture list, will be announced here as soon as possible.

Pakistan vs West Indies 2011

West Indies will be looking to end the ODI series on a high when they face Pakistan on Thursday.

The West Indies bounced back with a one-run win under Duckworth/Lewis Method on Monday in Barbados and will be looking to carry that momentum into the final match. They had a full training session on Wednesday at the ground and the stage is set for thrilling encounter.

"We did well in Barbados to win a close match, after we fell 3-0 down in the series. What we are looking for is a win tomorrow [Thursday] to finish off and carry the momentum into the two Test matches to follow," Sammy told reporters.

"We did some really good things in the last match. The bowlers have been excellent for us - they did really well in the World Cup and also in the T20 International and the first four matches of this series. Devendra Bishoo has been amazing since he came into the team and Ravi Rampaul has taken his chance with both hands."

The Windies Number 88 added: "The batsmen did the job in the last match and that was very good to see. We were set a challenging target and we chased it down. We had some really good batting at the top and we always had the belief we would pull it off. We held our nerve to pull one back in the series. Now we will look to put in another good showing and get another win on the board."

Sammy said the players were feeling quite confident as they prepare to play in front what promises to be the biggest crowd of the series.

"We have confidence. You could see from the way everyone was running around during our training session that we are enjoying our work and believe we can perform well and win again. We will plan well again. We will look at what we did well in the last match and aim to improve on that. Winning is never easy and we want to work hard and taste victory again."

2011 Cricket World Cup

The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup will be the tenth Cricket World Cup and will be hosted by three South Asian Test cricket playing countries: India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. It will be Bangladesh's first time co-hosting a Cricket World Cup. The World Cup will use cricket's One Day International format, with fourteen national cricket teams scheduled[1] to compete. The World Cup will take place between February and early April 2011, with the first match to be played on 19 February 2011 with co-hosts India and Bangladesh facing off at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.[2] The opening ceremony will be held on 17 February 2011, two days before the start of the tournament.[3]
The World Cup was also supposed to be co-hosted by Pakistan, but in the wake of the 2009 attack on the Sri Lanka national cricket team in Lahore, the International Cricket Council (ICC) decided to strip Pakistan of its hosting rights.[4] The headquarters of the organising committee were originally situated in Lahore, but have now been shifted to Mumbai.[5] Pakistan was supposed to hold 14 matches, including one semi-final.[6] Eight of Pakistan's matches have been awarded to India, four to Sri Lanka and two to Bangladesh.[7]
